Welcome to the Healy House
Greetings and welcome to the Healy House,
The home of my husband, Brian Healy, and myself, Jeanette Healy. We currently live in the Hudson Valley area, roughly an hour and a half from New York City, on the border between Orange and Sullivan Counties. My husband and I have many hobbies and interests that we have pursued over the years, including award winning costuming at various Science Fiction and Fantasy Conventions. You can find some of my husband’s interests over at his website, Eclipsos Armoury.
One of those interests is dogs and the dog show world. I have been a part of the dog show world since I was a little child, when my parents raised German Shepherds under the kennel name Strider Shepherds. My parents were members of Northern New Jersey German Shepherd Dog Club. My mother’s main interest with the club was Obedience. My father was club photographer for some of the shows run by Northern New Jersey.
When I was 10, my parents moved us up to Lake Huntington, NY on the New York/Pennsylvania border. That is when I got my first Shetland Sheepdog, Calcurts Black Magic, from Kit Curtis at Calcurt Shelties. My parents and I had fun with our shelties, as they made wonderful companions working with us on our farm, helping to herd our sheep, ducks, and cows. Eventually due to health issues, my parents stopped working with dogs, and moved off the farm into Middletown, NY.
After I got married, my husband and I purchased our first home, thus giving us space for our first dog, Bihari’s Yana. She was a wonderful German Shepherd, that we purchased from Joe Bihari, on April 1st 2001. I also rejoined Northern New Jersey German Shepherd Dog Club. I spent my years at Northern New Jersey German Shepherd Dog Club, working at the cook tent at the various specialty shows they sponsored. I also was chairman for a few of the Match Shows. I also served on the Board of Governors of the Club, as a regular Board Member and as Recording Secretary. I finally left the club in 2006 due to my schedule at my job that I had at the time. Sadly, we lost Yana, our little girl shepherd in 2007 over Thanksgiving.
Recently, my husband and I purchased a male bi-black Shetland Sheepdog puppy, named GinaGardens Oh Mi Little Admiral. His call name is Miles. We purchased him from Lena Melendez at GinaGardens Kennel over in Centerreach Long Island, at the end of January. He has been our joy from the moment he walked in the door.
Miles and I are currently learning many new skills, like rally obedience, as I intend to show him in the Rally Obedience Ring. We are also learning the basics of Obedience Work. Eventually I intend to introduce Miles to Herding Trials and Agility Trials.
I am happy to announce that Miles has competed in the confirmation ring at 6 shows and has acquired a total of 14 ribbons. Our next endeavor is to go into the obedience rally ring. Miles has also earned his Canine Good Citizenship. This is one step closer to getting him certified as a therapy dog. Miles has added two rally titles, Rally Novice and Rally Advance to his name. He has also earned one leg towards his Companion Dog title.
On July 9th, 2008, Brian and I are proud to introduce our second Shetland Sheepdog puppy, Calcurt Forward Momentum, AKA Taura. We want to thank Kit Curtis at Calcurt Shelties for giving us the opportunity to get her. She came to us all the way from Lynn Thomas in Indiana. She is a tri colored sheltie. Her father is Pogo, Ch. Fortunate Son. Her mother is Echo, Calcurt Dream Weaver.
Just like Miles, Taura's every day name and registered name were inspired from the Vorkosigan books by Lois McMaster Bujold.
I am happy to say that while tracing pedigrees for both Miles and Taura, I can now trace them back to two very special shelties. I am very happy to know that I can follow their family lines all the way back to Ch. Halstors Peter Pumpkin, ROM and Ch. Calcurt Luke, ROM. There are many exceptional shelties in their background, including these two.
I am happy to announce Darkmoon Hollow. My husband and I finally agreed on the best place to put up our dog runs for our puppies. There is a nice wooded and grassy area near the front of our property by our driveway that will be great for the puppies to run around. My husband and our friend Jason started placing the posts so that the fencing can be put up.
And there is a new face here at the Hollow... Her name is Amelia. She is the first generational addition to the Healy House and Darkmoon Hollow. Amelia is the daughter of our own Miles, Ginagardens Oh Mi Little Admiral, RN, CGC. Her mother is Daisy, Calcurt Silver Promise. I want to thank Susan Canfield for allowing this adorable little girl to be born into this world. She is a blue merle sheltie. Amelia is registered with the AKC as Darkmoon Miss Peabody. Like her father, Miles, and her cousin, Taura, her name is from another one of our favorite series of books. This time we got her name from the Amelia Peabody Egyptology Murder Mysteries written by Elizabeth Peters.
We have two more new faces here at the Hollow. February of 2009, Brian and I invited Calcurt Bronze Falcon to come stay with us. It was a wild ride of a year, but he is now here to stay and I am happy to say that he is now going to the shows with me and has earned 2 best opposites. Nice job Falcon!
The other addition to the house is M&M Mountains Dangerously Perfect with Swiss Charm, (Danger). He is a gorgeous two year old Bernese Mountain Dog. Danger came to live with us new years eve 2009. And he and Brian are pretty much inseparable. Danger is a 3 pt major away from his Champion title. Hopefully he will wow the judges in 2011 and add CH to the beginning of his name.
I am pleased to announce that we have gained our first generational litter here at the Hollow. Miles’ daughter Angel (Pleasant Valley Angel) and Falcon had three before little puppies. Yay for puppies!
Please keep checking the website as Brian, the fur foots and I continue our adventures in the Doggie World. I can't wait to see where these five wonderful dogs take us. There is no going back now, it's all Forward Momentum.
Thanks,
